I nuovi Guardian

I cinque candidati al premio Quotidiani dal miglior design secondo The Society for News Design. Io voto Politiken (bello pulito, tipo così) e National Post (provateci voi a fare un bel giornale con quel formato impossibile).

Excelsior uses a bold color palette and a multiple photographs on virtually every page to give it vigor and urgency. FAS and Politiken use sophisticated typography, masterful illustrations and wide broadsheet display to give them an authoritative look. The National Post revels in its narrow page width and tells stories visually as well as any newspaper in the world. The Grid has the feel of an underground paper minus most of the political coverage, but there are engaging story forms on every page.

  • Di PandoDaily, il nuovo sito sulle startup di Sarah Lacy (o l’ennesimo rivolo della diaspora da TechCrunch), per ora la cosa più interessante è il motivo per cui si chiama così. Un omaggio a un albero molto particolare.

    Pando (o Il Gigante tremante) è un genet di un pioppo maschio (Populus tremuloides) che si trova nello stato americano dello Utah, un genet è un organismo che vive mediante il continuo sviluppo di moduli che vanno a formare un’unica struttura ramificata. Dai marcatori genetici della pianta è stato stabilito che tutte le ramificazioni di Pando fanno parte dello stesso organismo vivente, con un massiccio sistema di radici sotterranee.
